COLUMBIA, S.C. (WBTV/AP) – The forum in South Carolina Monday evening featuring the leading Republican presidential candidates will be without major player Texas Gov. Rick Perry, the governor’s press office in Texas confirmed.

A press office staff member said Perry will leave the state after a town hall with South Carolina Rep. Tim Scott, to return to Austin because of wildfires plaguing the region.

“He has been monitoring what’s going on from the road as well,” the staffer said by phone Monday morning.

Candidates with no substance and checkered pasts play the hero all the time. Governor Perry is off to “fight” the wildfires in his home state of Texas. I’m sure a few gullible people out there will even belive that Rick Perry himself will be standing on the front line with a fire hose and a rescue axe.

OK probably not, but I look forward to all the propaganda footage of Rick Perry doing absolutely nothing in his “emergency meetings” while FOX News tells us that he is going to save the day.
